MOVIE GUIDE
ALL SAINTS - A pastor (John Corbett) is sent to a small town with orders to close its church so the land can be sold to developers. But when refugees from Myanmar begin arriving in the community, he decides to try farming the land in order to provide for his congregation and save the church.
ANNABELLE: CREATION - A group of orphaned girls are taken in by a doll maker (Anthony LaPaglia) and his wife (Miranda Otto), who are still grieving the death of their daughter. However, they are soon terrorized by a haunted doll that's lurking within the couple's house.
DETROIT - Director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and screenwriter Mark Boal reteam for this docudrama about the Detroit race riots of July 1967, which engulfed the city for five days after the public were outraged by the brutality of a police raid on an unlicensed bar. The film eventually zeros in on one particular incident at the Algiers Motel, where a group of black men and white women were terrorized (and some killed) by police officers.
DUNKIRK - Miraculous evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between May 27- June 04, 1940, during Battle of France in World War II.
THE EMOJI MOVIE - This animated comedy takes place in Textopolis, a world inside a smartphone that's inhabited by various emojis. There, an emoji named Gene (voiced by T.J. Miller) is ashamed that he has multiple facial expressions while his colleagues only have one each, and he embarks on a quest across various apps to be like everyone else.
GIRLS TRIP - When four lifelong friends—Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish— travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled and wild sides are rediscovered.
THE GLASS CASTLE - A young woman (Brie Larson) reflects on her unconventional upbringing at the hands of her artsy, nonconformist parents (Woody Harrelson and Naomi Watts), which sometimes resulted in the family living in poverty. Now married to a man who works in finance (Max Greenfield) in New York, she faces criticism from her parents that she's betrayed their values. Based on the memoir of the same name by Jeannette Walls.
GOOD TIME - Constantine (Robert Pattinson) loves and believes in his younger brother Nick (Benny Safdie). One day, the siblings attempt to rob a bank, but during the escape, Nick is caught by the police and detained at Rikers Island. Constantine worries that Nick, who is intellectually disabled, won't survive in jail. A pulse-pounding thriller from brothers Josh and Benny Safdie (Heaven Knows What), Good Time follows Constantine over the next day as he desperately tries to secure bail money. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barkhad Abdi and newcomer Taliah Webster co-star.
THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD - A bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds) must protect a hitman (Samuel L. Jackson) who's about to testify against a dictator (Gary Oldman).
HOME AGAIN - A recently separated woman (Reese Witherspoon) moves to Los Angeles with her two daughters, where she rents out her guesthouse to three much younger men (Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff, and Jon Rudnitsky) -- one of whom she soon begins dating. Her new life gets even more complicated when her estranged husband (Michael Sheen) reenters the picture.
IT - In a small town in 1989 Maine, seven bullied kids known as the "Losers' Club" discover that a malevolent force is preying on the local children. When they realize that the town's adults can't protect them, they band together to destroy the monster, a killer clown called Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård).
KIDNAP - When her six-year-old son (Sage Correa) is abducted from a carnival by a stranger, a desperate mother (Halle Berry) decides to take matters into her own hands rather than wait for law enforcement to help her. Her relentless pursuit eventually leads her to uncover a larger kidnapping ring.
LEAP! - In 19th century France, a young orphan named Félicie (voice of Elle Fanning) dreams of becoming a ballerina. She and her best friend Victor (voice of Dane DeHaan) soon run away to Paris, where she enrolls in a prestigious dance school and competes for a chance to be a prima ballerina.
LOGAN LUCKY - Two down-on-their-luck brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver), fed up by their dismal economic prospects, plot an elaborate heist at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. When their plan calls for an explosives expert, they attempt to recruit an eccentric convict named Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) -- but securing his help will require breaking him out of prison.
THE NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE -The evil mayor of Oakton has decided to bulldoze Liberty Park and build a dangerous amusement park in its place. Surly and his ragtag group of animal friends band together to save their home, defeat the mayor, and take back the park.
STEP -Blessin, Tayla, and Cori were only 12 when they first met, all newly enrolled at a Baltimore charter school. That first year, they formed a dance team, channeling their enthusiasm, frustrations, hopes, and fears into the precise rhythmic dance form known as “step.” That same year, Amanda Lipitz showed up with her camera, hoping to tell their stories. Six years later, they are seniors, each still working to attend college but also wrestling with real life along the way. And, though their step team has matured into a powerhouse, they’ve never won the prestigious Bowie State competition. Step (a True/False 2017 selection) is a joyous film, full of moments that will make you grin, make you cry, and 100 percent make you want to dance.
WIND RIVER - A U.S. Fish & Wildlife agent (Jeremy Renner) encounters a dead body on the Wind River Indian Reservation. The FBI sends in an agent (Elizabeth Olsen) to investigate. Startled by the harshness of the environment, she decides to hire the agent as a tracker, and together, they attempt to sort out what happened. Following Sicario and Hell Or High Water, Wind River is the third and final chapter in writer-director Taylor Sheridan's trilogy about life on the contemporary Western frontier. Wind River features an original score from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
WORK - Set in upstate New York during the economic bust of the late 1980s, Work follows Jenny (Cynthia Kaplan) as she hunts for a job. Jenny is frustrated by her conventional husband and she escapes into a love affair with a young neighbor, June (Sonja Sohn). But June is leaving the dead-end town for college at the soonest opportunity. As that day approaches Jenny struggles against her fear of losing not just the brightest hours of her day, but her nascent sense that she can build a life that matters. Recognized as part of the New Queer Cinema, Work premiered at New Directors/New Films in 1996 and screened in dozens of film festivals, museums and theaters around the world. It is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Writer-director Rachel Reichman, a Missouri native, has overseen the creation of a new DCP, which Ragtag is thrilled to present.

MOVIE GUIDE
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) directed this live-action retelling of the Disney animated classic from 1991. As before, this fairy tale centers on a young woman named Belle (Emma Watson), who is forced to live in an enchanted castle with a prince who is cursed to look like a hideous Beast (Dan Stevens). In time, the pair fall in love as Belle learns to see the good man hiding behind the Beast's monstrous exterior.
THE BOSS BABY - The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby's arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim.
CHIPS - A maverick motorbike racer (Dax Shepherd) reeling from a divorce and a California Highway Patrol cop (Michael Peña) who's secretly an FBI operative must overcome their personality mismatch and work together to uncover a major theft in this big-screen adaptation of the famous TV series from the 1970s and '80s.
GET OUT - A young African-American photographer (Daniel Kaluuya) is nervous at the thought of meeting his white girlfriend's parents (Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford) for the first time during a trip to the latter's country estate. However, his anxiety soon turns into outright terror when he discovers that the family's seemingly idyllic community is hiding a sinister conspiracy, one that involves the disappearance of several black people in the area. Jordan Peele, one half of the comedic duo Key & Peele, makes his directorial debut with this horror thriller.
GHOST IN THE SHELL - In a future in which humanity and technology have begun to merge, a cybernetically enhanced policewoman (Scarlett Johansson) hunts a mysterious terrorist who can hack into his victims' minds and control their thoughts and memories. Her pursuit eventually leads her to discover the full truth about her traumatic past.
GOING IN STYLE - Lifelong buddies Willie, Joe and Al decide to buck retirement and step off the straight-and narrow for the first time in their lives when their pension fund becomes a corporate casualty.
I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO - Writer James Baldwin tells the story of race in modern America with his unfinished novel, "Remember This House." Using only the writer's original words, director Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished -- a radical narration about race in America through the lives and assassinations of three of his friends: Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers and Malcolm X.
KONG: SKULL ISLAND - A secret government organization mounts an expedition to Skull Island, an uncharted territory in the Pacific. Led by an explorer (John Goodman) and a lieutenant colonel (Samuel L. Jackson), the group recruit a disillusioned soldier (Tom Hiddleston) and a photojournalist (Brie Larson) to investigate the island's peculiar seismic activity. But once there, they discover that Skull Island is home to a gigantic ape called King Kong, and find themselves caught up in an ongoing war between the beast and the area's indigenous predators.
THE LAST WORD - Shirley MacLaine stars as Harriet, a successful businesswoman who scrupulously oversees all aspects of her life. After reflecting on her many achievements, Harriet decides her life should be enshrined in a carefully written obituary, so she hires a young writer named Anne (Amanda Seyfried). Harriet is inevitably disappointed with the results and goes on a journey with Anne to rewrite her legacy.
LIFE - This science fiction saga tells the story of astronauts on the International Space Station who retrieve a sample from Mars and discover it contains evidence of intelligent life. The crew is thrust into danger when the specimen shows signs of aggression, threatening the entire mission.
LOGAN - In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
POWER RANGERS - Five teenagers (Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, and Ludi Lin) become superpowered warriors in this reboot of the long-running kids' action franchise. The outcast teens are thrust into battle against the evil witch and former Ranger Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) in a fight for fate of the world.
THE SHACK - Divine intervention draws a grieving father (Sam Worthington) to a shack in the woods, where he learns the truth behind the tragic death of his young daughter in this adaptation of the best-selling faith-based novel.
SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE - The little blue homunculi created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo return for another adventure, this time involving a quest through the Forbidden Forest to discover a long-hidden village hinted at in a treasure map.
THE ZOOKEEPER’S WIFE - Jessica Chastain stars as a real-life hero in this film from director Niki Caro (Whale Rider). Chastain stars as Antonina Żabińska, who runs the Warsaw Zoo alongside her husband Dr. Jan Żabiński (Johan Heldenbergh of The Broken Circle Breakdown). After World War II breaks out and Germany invades their country, Antonina and Jan are forced to report to the Reich's zoologist (Daniel Brühl), but covertly, they decide to join the Resistance.

When she resolutely tracks the man down, they are both drawn into a curious and thrilling game-a game that may, at any moment, spiral out of control.
FIFTY SHADES DARKER - This sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey adapts the second installment in E.L. James' best-selling trilogy of novels, which chronicle the torrid love affair between the demure Anatasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and possessive businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). When Strickland then challenges him to a fist fight after school, Campbell must find a way to avoid a vicious beating.
THE FOUNDER - Robert D. Siegel (former editor-in-chief of The Onion) tackles the McDonald's origin story in this whip-smart parable. Michael Keaton stars as Ray Kroc, a struggling Illinois salesman, who meets the McDonald brothers and is inspired by the ingenious way they run their kitchen.
JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 - Legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is once again called out of retirement by a former colleague to repay a debt in Rome. KONG: SKULL ISLAND - A secret government organization mounts an expedition to Skull Island, an uncharted territory in the Pacific. But once there, they discover that Skull Island is home to a gigantic ape called King Kong, and find themselves caught up in an ongoing war between the beast and the area's indigenous predators.
THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE - In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: “The LEGO® Batman Movie.”
